IIT Patna was established by an Act of Parliament on 6 August 2008 — one of the new-generation IITs created to extend technical education into states long underserved by it. The permanent campus at Bihta sits on 501 acres of the Ganga plains, about 35 km west of Patna city, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2015 [¹].
