Guide · JEE Main 2027 · Registration
JEE Main 2027 registration has not opened yet. NTA's tentative calendar puts the Session 1 exam on 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30 January 2027, with 31 January held as a buffer day. In the last two cycles the Session 1 form went live on 28 October and 31 October, so the window is likely close. This guide covers dates, fees, eligibility, the documents to prepare now and each step of the form, using the 2026 rules until NTA publishes the 2027 information bulletin.
When will JEE Main 2027 registration start?
NTA has not announced it. As of 13 October 2026 the JEE Main portal carries no 2027 application notice, and the only official 2027 document is the examination calendar NTA published on 16 September 2026. That notice says plainly that it "does not constitute a notification for any particular examination". The past two cycles give a fair guide:
| Cycle | Session 1 form opened | Form closed | Session 1 exam | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| JEE Main 2025 | 28 October 2024 | 22 November 2024 | 22 to 31 January 2025 | 2025 bulletin |
| JEE Main 2026 | 31 October 2025 | 27 November 2025 | 21 to 30 January 2026 | NTA notice, 31 Oct 2025 |
| JEE Main 2027 | Not announced | Not announced | 22 to 24 and 28 to 30 January 2027 (tentative) | NTA calendar, 16 Sep 2026 |
Our reading, not NTA's: the form will probably open in the last week of October or the first days of November 2026, and stay open for about four weeks. Last year NTA also issued two advisories before the form opened, one on 29 September 2025 and one on 19 October 2025. Watch for the same this year.
JEE Main 2027 exam dates
NTA's calendar lists JEE (Main) Session 1 for 22 to 24 and 28 to 30 January 2027, six exam days, with 31 January 2027 as a buffer (NTA calendar, 16 September 2026). The calendar adds that "The dates indicated therein are tentative and may undergo changes owing to administrative, academic, statutory, logistical or other unforeseen circumstances."
Session 2 is not on the calendar, which runs only to March 2027. In the 2026 cycle, the bulletin scheduled Session 2 applications from the last week of January and the exam between 2 and 9 April (2026 bulletin). Exams run in two shifts, 9 am to 12 noon and 3 pm to 6 pm for a three-hour paper.
Who can apply for JEE Main 2027?
The 2026 bulletin is clear on age: "For appearing in the JEE (Main) - 2026, there is no age limit for the candidates." What limits you is the year you passed Class 12. For 2026, students who passed Class 12 in 2024 or 2025, or were appearing in 2026, could apply. Students who passed in 2023 or earlier could not (2026 bulletin, section 3.3).
If NTA keeps the same three-year rule for 2027, students who passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or are appearing in 2027, will be eligible. That is our inference from the 2026 rule; confirm it in the 2027 bulletin. Note that the passing year is the year you first passed, so an improvement exam does not reset it.
Two other thresholds matter later, not at registration. Admission to NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs through JoSAA needs at least 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC, ST and PwD) or a place in the top 20 percentile of your board. And to sit JEE Advanced, the route to the IITs, you must be among the top 2,50,000 in JEE Main Paper 1 across all categories (2026 bulletin, sections 5.8.1 and 5.8.4).
JEE Main application fee
These are the 2026 fees for each session, from the 2026 information bulletin. The same amounts appear in the 2025 bulletin, but the 2027 fee will only be confirmed in the new bulletin. Bank processing charges and GST are extra, and payment is online only, by card, net banking or UPI.
| Paper | Category | Centre in India | Centre outside India |
|---|---|---|---|
| One paper (B.E./B.Tech, or B.Arch, or B.Planning) | General, male | ₹1,000 | ₹5,000 |
| General, female | ₹800 | ₹4,000 | |
| Gen-EWS / OBC (NCL), male | ₹900 | ₹4,500 | |
| Gen-EWS / OBC (NCL), female | ₹800 | ₹4,000 | |
| SC / ST / PwD / PwBD (male or female) | ₹500 | ₹2,500 | |
| Third gender | ₹500 | ₹3,000 | |
| Two or three papers (e.g. B.Tech + B.Arch) | General / Gen-EWS / OBC (NCL), male | ₹2,000 | ₹10,000 |
| General / Gen-EWS / OBC (NCL), female | ₹1,600 | ₹8,000 | |
| SC / ST / PwD / PwBD, third gender | ₹1,000 | ₹5,000 |
You pay separately for each session. If you apply for Session 1, you can add Session 2 later with the same application number and pay then. If you want only Session 2, you can register when its window opens.
Documents to get ready before the form opens
Most problems last year started before the form. NTA's 29 September 2025 advisory asked students to fix three things in advance. On Aadhaar it said: "Aadhaar Card should be updated with correct name, date of birth (as per Class 10th certificate), latest photograph, address and father's name." It also asked for a valid, renewed UDID card for students with disabilities, and a valid category certificate for EWS, SC, ST and OBC-NCL (NTA advisory, 29 Sep 2025).
NTA pulls your name, date of birth, gender, photograph and address from UIDAI through Aadhaar authentication, so a mismatch shows up immediately (NTA advisory, 19 Oct 2025). Aadhaar updates can take days, so start now. Keep these files ready, sized as the 2026 bulletin asked:
| Upload | Format | Size | Rule in the 2026 bulletin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photograph | JPG/JPEG | 10 to 200 KB | Recent, in colour, 80% face visible including ears, white background, no mask |
| Live photograph | Captured by webcam or phone (QR code) | Not applicable | Light-coloured background, proper lighting, 80% face visible including ears |
| Signature | JPG/JPEG | 10 to 100 KB | Clearly legible |
| Class 10 certificate or marksheet | 50 to 300 KB | Clearly legible | |
| Identity proof (only if not using Aadhaar or DigiLocker) | JPG/JPEG | 10 to 200 KB | Clearly legible |
| Disability / UDID certificate (if applicable) | 50 to 300 KB | Verified against the UDID portal |

- A card, net banking login or UPI app that can pay online.
- Your choice of exam cities and question paper language.
How to fill the JEE Main 2027 application form, step by step
The process in the 2026 bulletin has three steps, all on jeemain.nta.nic.in. Expect the 2027 form to follow it closely.
- Register. Enter your basic details, create a password and choose a security question. Note the application number the system generates; it is used for both sessions.
- Fill the application form. Log in with that number and password. Add personal details, the paper, exam cities, educational qualifications, and upload your live photograph and the files above.
- Pay the fee. Pay online. The confirmation page is generated only after the payment goes through. Download and keep it.
The password must be 8 to 13 characters, with at least one upper case letter, one lower case letter, one number and one special character. If the confirmation page does not appear after you pay, the bulletin says the transaction is treated as cancelled; you pay again, and NTA refunds duplicate payments after the final result.
Mistakes that cost students in 2026
A live photo that did not match Aadhaar. On 2 January 2026, NTA said that "In some cases, the live photographs captured by the candidates during the application process did not match with the photographs as per records available with UIDAI." Those students had to get a certificate attested by their principal or a gazetted officer, upload it by 15 January, and carry a printed copy to the exam centre (NTA notice, 2 Jan 2026). Updating your Aadhaar photo before you apply avoids this.
Filling more than one form. The bulletin is blunt: "Under no circumstances, candidates will be allowed to fill more than one Application Form." NTA treats it as unfair means, even if caught later.
Choosing the wrong language. The question paper language "cannot be changed at a later stage" (2026 bulletin, note 2.2). The correction window that follows registration lets you change only certain fields, so check everything before you pay.
JEE Main exam pattern (Paper 1, B.E./B.Tech)
Paper 1 is a three-hour computer-based test with 75 questions. Each subject has 20 multiple-choice questions and 5 numerical-answer questions (NTA notice, 31 Oct 2025). A correct answer earns 4 marks and a wrong answer costs 1, and the 2026 notice says there will be negative marking in both sections. The paper is offered in 13 languages.
| Subject | Section A (MCQ) | Section B (numerical) | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | 20 | 5 | 100 |
| Physics | 20 | 5 | 100 |
| Chemistry | 20 | 5 | 100 |
| Total | 60 | 15 | 300 |
If you take both sessions, your better NTA score counts for the merit list.
How to check this yourself
- Applications are only taken on jeemain.nta.nic.in. Ignore forms anywhere else.
- New notices appear on the JEE Main portal and on nta.ac.in. The 2027 information bulletin will be posted there when registration opens.
- NTA's helpline is 011-40759000, email jeemain@nta.ac.in.
- For JEE Advanced rules, use jeeadv.ac.in; for counselling, josaa.nic.in.
We will update this page when NTA opens the form and publishes the 2027 bulletin.
