Thomso'26 runs 9–11 October 2026, the theme is An Arcadian Odyssey, and registration is already open. That is the short version, and if you only came for the dates you can stop reading.
The longer version matters, though, because IIT Roorkee's own academic calendar says something different — and because almost everything else about this edition is still unannounced. Passes have no price. The line-up has no names. Accommodation is not open. Any article telling you otherwise in August 2026 is guessing, and we would rather show you the gaps than fill them with invention.

The dates — and the calendar that disagrees
Three official Thomso channels give the same answer. The fest's Instagram bio reads "North India's Largest Cultural Festival Thomso'26 - 9-11 October". Its LinkedIn page posted "Save the date: Thomso'26 will be held from 9th to 11th October at IIT Roorkee." Its Facebook page: "Circle your calendars! Thomso'26 is happening 9-11 October."
There is a fourth, better signal. thomso.in runs a live countdown, and a countdown cannot be vague. We resolved it on 30 August 2026: it lands on 00:00 IST on 9 October 2026 — midnight rolling into day one. The fest's own clock agrees with the fest's own posts.
Now the complication. IIT Roorkee's Autumn 2026-27 academic calendar — the institute document, not the fest's — lists "Thomso 2026 October 23 – 25, 2026". Two and a half weeks later than the fest says.
Which is right? The academic calendar was approved at a Senate meeting in February 2026, seven months before the fest team started announcing. The fest announcements are from August, they are consistent across three platforms, and they are backed by a running countdown on the official site. Plan for 9–11 October. The 23–25 October entry reads as a provisional slot penned in months ahead and since moved.
Book refundable travel anyway. The gap between an institute calendar and a fest team's Instagram is exactly the kind of thing that gets reconciled late, and you do not want a non-refundable Delhi–Roorkee booking riding on it. If you see a third date appear anywhere, the institute calendar is the one to watch — a Senate-approved document changing back would be the signal.
Registration: open, free to start, and it gives you a Thomso ID
The banner across every page of thomso.in reads "Thomso'26 Registrations are Live." Registration happens at thomso.in/login and the flow is passwordless — you enter an email, they send a code, you are in. The on-page copy: "Admit one · Sign in · Enter your email to begin — new participants and returning ones alike."
What you get is a Thomso ID. The site describes itself as the place to "Explore events, browse the schedule, and claim your Thomso ID." Read that as an account, not a ticket. Registering now costs nothing and appears to be the handle through which events, the schedule and eventually accommodation get attached to you — so doing it early is sensible even though nothing is bookable yet.
Do not pay anyone for a Thomso'26 pass right now
There are no published pass tiers and no published prices. The /passes route on the official site returns a 404. We looked across the site on 30 August and there is no pricing anywhere.
Every year around this point, aggregator pages and resellers start quoting last year's numbers as though they are this year's. If a page shows you a Thomso'26 pass price today, it either invented it or copied it from a previous edition. Wait for the official announcement.
Karwaan: the part you can act on today
This is the most useful thing in this guide, and it is the thing most Thomso coverage skips.
Thomso runs city-level qualifiers called Karwaan, and they are running now, weeks before the fest. From zonals.thomso.in: "Karwaan is Thomso's nationwide talent hunt: city-level competitions held across India by IIT Roorkee, months ahead of the main festival. It set out in 2017 through Jaipur, Delhi and Chandigarh, and has travelled further every year since. We come to your city to find the performers who belong on the Thomso stage."
Crucially: "Free to enter and open to all college students." You do not need to be at an IIT, and you do not need to pay.
Zone status when we checked on 30 August: Jaipur is open for registration; Chandigarh and Lucknow are listed as coming soon. One caution — the page title lists a different set of cities (Jaipur, Chandigarh, Delhi, Dehradun) from the page body. Trust the body, and re-check before you travel. There is also a Campus Ambassador programme running at ca.thomso.in, linked from the fest's own Linktree.
Line-up: nothing announced, and the site says so
We can quote the official position directly, because thomso.in/events states it plainly: "Not open yet · The programme is coming soon. The line-up for Thomso'26 is still being finalised. Every event, its venue and its schedule will appear here as soon as it is announced."
For calibration rather than prediction: Thomso'25, themed An Eternal Tripnosis, featured Salim–Sulaiman. Farhan Akhtar played Xhileration in 2017. Indian Ocean and Sunil Pal have both appeared in past editions. Historically the headline announcement lands a few weeks out, which for a 9 October fest means late September.
The recurring flagship events are worth knowing by name so you can spot them when the schedule drops: Wargasm (music), Xhileration (the main concert), Vogue (fashion), Footloose (dance), Thahake (Hasya Kavi Sammelan) and Garbade (art).
Accommodation: not open, no price
Again, straight from the official page: "Not open yet · Accommodation opens soon. Where you stay for the fest is still being arranged. Nothing is decided yet, and nothing here needs doing until it is."
The page sits alongside the participant dashboard, which implies accommodation gets requested through your Thomso ID once it opens. If you are coming from outside Roorkee, register now so you are not creating an account at the moment the rooms open.
What Thomso actually is
Thomso has run since 1982. In 2005 the Government of Uttarakhand recognised it as the state's annual cultural festival — a designation almost no other college fest in India carries. It calls itself North India's largest cultural festival, and on scale it has a claim: the 2018 edition ran 150+ events and drew 9,000+ visiting students from 200 colleges, on top of 12,000-odd from IIT Roorkee itself.
One genuine oddity about this edition. Thomso has historically run at the end of October into early November. A 9–11 October slot is meaningfully earlier than its own norm, which is probably why the February academic calendar had it later. If you are an alum planning around "the usual Thomso weekend", the usual weekend has moved.
Getting to IIT Roorkee
All distances from IIT Roorkee's own travel page:
- By train (best option): 212 km from New Delhi, "18 direct trains from New Delhi to Roorkee", fastest around 3.5 hours. Nearby stations if Roorkee is full: Haridwar (30 km), Saharanpur (55 km), Dehradun (70 km).
- By air: Delhi's IGI is the practical airport at 200 km / ~5.5 hours by road. Dehradun's Jolly Grant is closer at 70 km / ~2 hours but has far fewer flights.
- By road: ~180 km from Delhi, buses from Kashmiri Gate ISBT. From Dehradun it is 72 km / ~2 hours, buses from Dehradun ISBT.
A practical note from students on r/IITRoorkee: the Roorkee bus stand sits roughly 50 metres from the campus, so the bus is less painful than the distance suggests. Take the train if you can get a seat; take the bus if you cannot.

9–11 October 2026, at IIT Roorkee. This is confirmed by the fest's Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook accounts and by the countdown on thomso.in, which resolves to midnight IST entering 9 October. Note that IIT Roorkee's Autumn 2026-27 academic calendar, approved back in February 2026, lists 23–25 October instead — treat that as a superseded provisional slot.
Are Thomso 2026 registrations open?
Yes. Registration is live at thomso.in/login. It is email-based with a one-time code, and it gives you a Thomso ID rather than a ticket.
How much is a Thomso 2026 pass?

Who is performing at Thomso 2026?
