IIT Roorkee Placements 2025-26: 436 Day 1 Offers, the Recovery from a Parliament-Flagged Slump

IIT Roorkee opened the 2025-26 placement season on 2 December 2025 with 436 offers on Day 1 (428 domestic + 8 international), naming NVIDIA, Qualcomm, D.E. Shaw, Google, Amazon and Texas Instruments among 14 Day 1 recruiters. The recovery matters because 2023-24's 79.66% placement rate (down from 98.54% in 2021-22) was flagged by a Parliamentary Standing Committee, and 2024-25 total offers dropped 21% while recruiter count dropped 37% year-on-year. Full 2025-26 salary numbers land after Phase 2 (May 2026).

IIT Roorkee Placements 2025-26: 436 Day 1 Offers, the Recovery from a Parliament-Flagged Slump

Key takeaways

  • How many offers did IIT Roorkee make on Day 1 of the 2025-26 placement season?
  • Why was IIT Roorkee's placement rate flagged in Parliament?
  • What was IIT Roorkee's highest package in 2025-26?
  • How did IIT Roorkee's 2024-25 placements compare to 2023-24?

IIT Roorkee opened the 2025-26 placement season on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, with 436 offers on Day 1 — 428 domestic and 8 international. Named Day 1 recruiters included NVIDIA, Qualcomm, D.E. Shaw, Google, Amazon, Texas Instruments, Microsoft, SAP Labs, Flipkart, Mastercard, NatWest Group, Meesho, and PSU giants BPCL and BEL — per the CollegeDekho Day 1 report. Sectors highlighted: AI, Data Analytics, Semiconductor Tech, Sustainability, and Core Engineering.

The number matters because of what it recovers from. In March 2025, a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education (headed by Congress MP Digvijaya Singh) flagged IIT Roorkee's B.Tech placement rate cratering from 98.54% in 2021-22 to 79.66% in 2023-24 — an unusual 19-percentage-point decline. In the year that followed, per the WatchOut IIT Roorkee student media analysis, total 2024-25 offers dropped 21% (938 → 742) and recruiter count fell 37% (261 → 163). Against that backdrop, 436 Day 1 offers with a recruiter list that includes NVIDIA and D.E. Shaw is a real signal — not marketing fluff. Full 2025-26 salary data lands after Phase 2 concludes in May 2026; this post gets refreshed on release.

The baggage the 2025-26 Day 1 rebound is offsetting

You cannot read the Day 1 number in isolation. Three data points define the context Roorkee entered this season with:

  1. Parliamentary flag (March 2025). The Standing Committee on Education's 363rd and 364th reports, presented 26 March 2025 as part of the Demands for Grants 2025-26 process, called out the "unusual decline in placements in IITs and IIITs between the years 2021-22 and 2023-24." IIT Roorkee's B.Tech rate — 98.54% (2021-22) → 79.66% (2023-24) — was cited by name using MHRD official data.
  2. Volume drop 2024-25. WatchOut's June 2025 Phase 1 analysis confirmed total offers fell from 938 (2023-24) to 742 (2024-25) — a 21% year-on-year drop. Recruiter count fell harder: 261 companies (2023-24) → 163 companies (2024-25), a 37% collapse. PPOs held steadier at 222 (2024-25) vs 213 (2023-24), but the top of the funnel narrowed sharply.
  3. Structural critique by student media. WatchOut editorial finding: "Slotting decisions by the PIC continued to significantly affect outcomes. In both 2024 and 2025, early-slot companies received more attention and yielded better results, while late-slot firms — often in core or consulting — struggled to convert shortlists into offers. This recurring issue reinforces how logistical priorities can shape placement outcomes as much as student capabilities." The Placement and Internship Cell's slot-sequencing is being named as a market-distorting factor by the students themselves.

So when you read "436 Day 1 offers," the honest question is not just "how does this compare to other IITs this year" — it is "does this bend the curve back on Roorkee's own trajectory." Early answer: yes, but Phase 2 data will settle it.

The Day 1 recruiters — and what the sector list signals

All 14 named Day 1 firms from CollegeDekho, categorized by sector:

SectorRecruiters
Semiconductor / HardwareNVIDIA, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments
Big Tech / SDEGoogle, Microsoft, Amazon, SAP Labs, Oracle (via PPO conversions)
Quant / FinanceD. E. Shaw, Mastercard, NatWest Group
Consumer Tech / E-commerceFlipkart, Meesho
PSU / CoreBPCL, BEL

Two reads. First, the semiconductor cluster (NVIDIA + Qualcomm + TI) is a real signal — that is not a random Day 1 constellation. It aligns with the "Semiconductor Tech" sector flag in the official Day 1 announcement, and suggests IITR's hardware/circuits programs are being recruited in a specific cycle. Second, D.E. Shaw's Day 1 presence is the quant-finance version of the same signal that IIT Hyderabad got from Optiver and Jane Street this year — an HFT-adjacent shop showing up at Roorkee is the sort of recruiter mix that wasn't consistently there in 2023-24.

2024-25 → 2025-26 comparison (the WatchOut baseline)

Metric2023-242024-25 (WatchOut)2025-26 (Day 1 only)
Total offers (full season)938742Day 1: 436 (full-season TBD May 2026)
Recruiter count (full season)261163TBD
PPOs213222TBD
B.Tech placement rate79.66% (Parliament)TBD (WatchOut didn't publish)TBD

WatchOut's per-role breakdown for 2024-25 tells the sector-mix story too: SDE 201 offers from 60 companies, PM/Consulting 113 offers from 32 companies, Core Engineering 92 offers from 37 companies, Data Science 70 offers from 20 companies, Design 1 offer. Consulting rose year-on-year, per WatchOut. The Day 1 sector list for 2025-26 (AI, Data Analytics, Semiconductor, Sustainability, Core) suggests that mix continues to broaden away from pure SDE.

Named PPO companies in 2024-25 (for continuity)

WatchOut's 2024-25 breakdown, by company + PPO count: Google (16), Texas Instruments (15), Samsung Research Institute (13), Goldman Sachs (9), Oracle (9), Adobe (6), Microsoft (5), Jaguar (5), JP Morgan (5). Every one of those firms has been either a Day 1 presence in 2025-26 (Google, TI, Microsoft) or is a plausible Phase 1 return. Continuity of recruiter base is real; the recruiter expansion question is what Phase 2 answers.

The salary figures — and why they aren't in this post yet

Every other per-IIT post we've published this cycle led with a specific package number. This one does not. Here is why, in plain terms:

  • 2025-26 highest package: NOT PUBLICLY REPORTED. The Day 1 CollegeDekho article did not include the highest offer, and IIT Roorkee's official channels (placement.iitr.ac.in, cdc.iitr.ac.in) were not accessible during this research pass. The definitive source — results.channeli.in — is gated behind the campus VPN.
  • 2024-25 highest package: also unreported publicly. WatchOut's Phase 1 analysis (the single most authoritative Roorkee source) does not cover salary figures at all. Their explanation: their data pull comes from channeli.in + PIC and covers offer volume and role breakdown, not compensation.
  • Average / median 2025-26: expected post-Phase 2. These are typically published by WatchOut in their June-July retrospective. WatchOut's 2024-25 analysis dropped 5 June 2025; a 2025-26 analysis would land around 5-15 June 2026.

We could have padded the post with 2023-24 salary rumours or careers-aggregator estimates. We chose not to. When 2025-26 salary data lands, this post gets a full refresh — and you can watch this URL for that update.

What this means if you got IIT Roorkee via JoSAA 2026

Three practical reads.

  1. The Day 1 recruiter list is the strongest positive signal. NVIDIA + Qualcomm + TI on Day 1 means Roorkee's semiconductor programs are being sought after; D.E. Shaw's presence means the quant-finance path from Roorkee is live again. If you got CSE, EE, or ECE, this is the recruiter constellation that matters.
  2. Trust WatchOut over aggregators. The IITR student-media outfit is the most reliable source on Roorkee placements — better than Careers360, Shiksha, or CollegeDekho, because they pull directly from channeli.in and PIC. Their next Phase 1 analysis (expected June 2026) will be the first honest full-picture read on 2025-26.
  3. PIC's slot-sequencing is a real structural factor. If you land in a "late-slot" branch (often core or consulting), the WatchOut critique suggests you may need to compensate with off-campus effort. Not a fatal issue, but worth planning for early — start off-campus outreach in parallel with the on-campus season, don't wait for slot-day to decide.

A note on sourcing: The 436 Day 1 figure and recruiter list are from CollegeDekho's December 2025 report. Historical placement data (2023-24, 2024-25 offer counts, PPO counts, role breakdowns, structural critique) comes from WatchOut IIT Roorkee's student-media analyses (Sept 2024, June 2025), which cite results.channeli.in + PIC directly. Parliamentary Standing Committee data (98.54% → 79.66% B.Tech placement rate) is from the March 2025 363rd/364th reports on Demands for Grants 2025-26, using MHRD official data. Salary figures for 2025-26 (highest, average, median) are not publicly available at this time and this post will be refreshed when they land.
