As of 21 October 2026, the 23 IITs have 338 live recruitment listings: 249 project posts, 67 non-teaching adverts and 22 open faculty calls. 237 carry a dated deadline; the other 101 are rolling calls with no last date. Only three are regular non-teaching posts on the Central pay matrix, and the biggest is IIT Jodhpur's 20-post staff drive, which closes on 30 October.
Everything here is filtered on the closing date, not the date the advert appeared. An advert posted in August that runs to 30 October is in this list. An advert posted last week that shut on 20 October is not. Most aggregators sort by posting date and leave dead listings at the top for weeks, which is why this page exists.
Closing this week (21 to 27 October): 121 listings, of which 102 are project posts and 19 are non-teaching. No faculty call closes this week. 37 of them close today, 21 October, including 13 at IIT Kharagpur alone. The non-teaching ones are listed in full below.
IIT non-teaching recruitment 2026: what is open right now?
This is the category most people are searching for: permanent institute posts on the Central pay matrix, with service rules and pension-track terms. As of 21 October 2026 there are exactly three such posts open across the 23 IITs, in two institutes. Every regular drive on the 27 September page has since closed.

The IIT Jodhpur drive is the only open-competition one. It is online-only, with a fee of ₹1,000 for Group A and ₹500 for other posts, and its 20 posts span Group A (Level 10) to Group C (Level 3). Both Registrar posts are senior deputation or tenure appointments aimed at serving officers and academics. IIT Jodhpur is also taking 27 graduate apprentices under NATS at a ₹20,000 stipend (closes 30 October), which is a traineeship, not a job.

The other 25 non-teaching listings are jobs at campus companies and foundations that the IITs list on their own careers pages. They are not institute posts. IIT Indore's DRISHTI CPS Foundation accounts for 15, all rolling. IIT Mandi's iHub and HCi Foundation has five rolling roles up to ₹60,000. IIT Bombay's Dean (ACR) portal lists three jobs at its Development and Relations Foundation. IIT Gandhinagar's Research Park and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad's TEXMiN Foundation each have one post closing 23 October. Four more listings are internships or apprenticeships.
What changed since the last rebuild (27 September)
The headline number is the same, 338, by coincidence. The mix under it is not. Last time it was 273 project posts, 41 non-teaching adverts and 24 faculty calls, with 251 dated and 87 rolling. Now it is 249, 67 and 22, with 237 dated and 101 rolling. Almost every dated advert on the old page has since closed, so most of today's rows are new.
The regular-staff shelf turned over completely. IIT Tirupati's 13-post drive closed on 30 September, IIT (BHU) Varanasi's 55-post Group B and C drive on 1 October with no further extension, and IIT Goa's Registrar drive on 2 October. IIT Kharagpur's library traineeship closed on 14 October. In their place: IIT Jodhpur's 20-post drive (advertised 28 September) and the two Registrar calls.
Faculty windows shut at five institutes. IIT (ISM) Dhanbad's 60-post Professor drive closed on 30 September, IIT Bhubaneswar's IPR chair on 8 October, IIT Madras's rolling Assistant Professor advert on 15 October, and IIT Jodhpur's special drive on 15 October, with its general advert shut on the portal on 18 October. Two opened: IIT Hyderabad's regular drive (16 October) and two new IIT Mandi calls (17 October).
Two counting notes. IIT Bombay's Dean (ACR) job portal was read for the first time, adding 14 listings; like for like, the total is 324. IIT Indore went from 13 to 37, because nine outsourced institute posts closing 23 October were added and each DRISHTI Foundation advert is now its own row. IIT Delhi rose from 16 to 45 on a wave of new IRD project adverts. IIT Madras fell from 20 to 4, IIT Kharagpur from 46 to 29 and IIT Jammu from 14 to 4.

A listing is one advert, even when it covers many posts. Bold non-teaching counts mark the two institutes with a regular staff post open. "Today" means the deadline is 21 October. Rolling counts include old adverts that are still posted: at IIT Hyderabad, many of its 44 rolling adverts date from 2024 and 2025.
Which IITs are hiring faculty? 12 of 23
Faculty hiring at IITs is mostly rolling: a standing advert, with applications reviewed in batches. The useful question is whether the window is open, and for whom. As of today it is open at 12 institutes, down from 15. IIT Delhi's and IIT Ropar's only open calls for Indian applicants are special drives for reserved categories.

Project staff: 249 listings, and the ones worth a look
Most of this page is project staff: JRF, SRF, Project Associate, Research Associate and postdoc posts paid from individual grants, on fixed terms. JRF adverts this week mostly print ₹37,000 a month, plus HRA where applicable. IIT Hyderabad (46), IIT Delhi (38), IIT Kharagpur (27), IIT Bombay (25) and IIT Roorkee (23) account for nearly two-thirds of the project count.

Two caveats on the project count. IIT Hyderabad's 46 project listings include 44 rolling adverts; treat any rolling Hyderabad row as "email the PI and ask". IIT Roorkee has ten rolling project adverts dated May 2024 to July 2025 that are still posted.
The biggest job not on the count: Director, IIT Delhi
The Ministry of Education's call for Director, IIT Delhi closes on 31 October 2026. Applications go by registered or speed post to the Department of Higher Education. The notice, now posted on IIT Delhi's own jobs page, gives a fixed pay of ₹2,25,000 a month with allowances. The same page links the Director calls for IIT Mandi and IIT Indore. It sits outside the main count because it is a ministry appointment, not an institute advert. The ministry's own vacancies page still renders empty without JavaScript.
The pay spread this week
Take only dated adverts and compare band floors. At the top is IIT Delhi's Project Director at ₹1,94,400 a month plus HRA (closes 22 October). At the bottom is IIT Bombay's Project Technical Assistant at PR-A2, from ₹14,400 (closes 22 October). That is a 13.5x spread between two adverts with the same closing date. Among faculty, the highest floor on a dated advert is IIT Mandi's Professor post at Level 14A, ₹1,59,100 (closes 6 November).
Rolling adverts go higher. IIT Roorkee's foreign-national faculty advert prints consolidated bands up to ₹3,60,000, and IIT Hyderabad still lists a 5G/6G Project Officer-4 at ₹2,40,000 to ₹2,95,000 from 2025. We do not headline either, because an open-ended advert is not the same as a live vacancy.
Nobody is at zero, but Goa and Tirupati are close
All 23 IITs have at least one live listing for the third rebuild running. The thin end:
- IIT Goa has one listing: a part-time student counsellor walk-in on 27 October. If nothing new is posted, it will have none by next week's rebuild.
- IIT Tirupati has one: two outsourced network-support posts (closes 31 October), titled "Project Associate" but in fact IT support jobs through an agency. It has no open sponsored-project post.
- IIT Madras is down to four project posts, closing 23 to 30 October. All 19 project posts on the 27 September page have closed.
- IIT Dharwad has one dated listing (an audit consultant, 22 October); the rest are rolling adverts from 2022.
How this list is built, and what it gets wrong
Each institute's own recruitment pages are read directly; aggregators are not used as a source. On 21 October all 23 sites were read, several through the data feeds behind their JavaScript pages (Delhi IRD, Kharagpur and Bhubaneswar SRIC, Patna notices, Guwahati R&D, Madras IC&SR, Jodhpur ERP). Gandhinagar, Jammu, Ropar and Tirupati needed a rendering fetcher.
Pages that did not load on 21 October: IIT Bombay's old job-vacancy page (now a 404; the adverts moved to its careers page) and its hospital page (timed out; hospital walk-ins also appear in the staff notices, and none is open). IIT Bhilai's "Recruitment Announcements" menu link goes to an error page; its R&D, staff and faculty pages loaded. IIT Jammu's jobs feed returned 404, so its listings came from the copy in the site's own code. IIT Kanpur's off-campus incubator careers page was not read. The Ministry of Education vacancies page rendered empty.
Traps found this week:
- IIT Bombay's Dean (ACR) portal shows only "posted N days ago" and says posts stay active for 14 days. The ten project closing dates from it are counted from that, and could be a day out.
- IIT Kharagpur: ten Platinum Jubilee roles that closed on 8 October now show 21 October, with no corrigendum posted.
- IIT Delhi's IRD feed stores deadlines a day early in UTC; read in Indian time, they match the PDFs.
- IIT Gandhinagar still marks expired posts "Open", and shows extensions only as a strike-through on the listing.
- IIT Jodhpur calls its faculty advert rolling, but the portal closed it on 18 October.
- IIT (BHU) Varanasi: most project rows say "apply within 21 days" with no date, so those deadlines are counted from the upload date.
- IIT Palakkad: the clinic doctor PDF still says 10 October; a corrigendum on the listing moves it to 21 October.
