IIT Guwahati's computer science graduates had a median CTC of ₹51 lakh in the 2025-26 season, according to the institute's own placement report. That is the highest CSE median any IIT has officially published for the season so far. Most of what you'll find online for "IIT Bombay CSE average package" or "IIT Delhi CSE average package" is a guess. Neither institute publishes a CSE pay figure. Nor do IIT Kanpur or IIT Kharagpur. This page collects the CSE numbers the IITs have actually released, tags each with its season and source, and marks the institutes that have released nothing.
CSE placements 2025-26: every official number so far
The 2025-26 season ran from December 2025 to mid-2026. These are the IITs that have published branch-level CSE figures for it. CTC is in lakh per annum, B.Tech CSE unless noted.

Two more IITs have released CSE figures for 2025-26 through the press rather than a report. IIT Kanpur: "computer science and engineering saw 99% of its students selected", per institute data reported by ETV Bharat (21 July 2026), with no pay figures. IIT Hyderabad: in Phase 1, CSE placed 83.05% of registered students, and the average CTC across AI, CSE and Mathematics & Computing combined was "around ₹40 lakh per annum" (The Hindu, 5 January 2026).
Read the medians and averages together. Guwahati's CSE median sits above its average, which means a tail of lower offers pulls the average below the typical graduate's package. Dharwad's is the other way round: an ₹18.5 lakh median under a ₹28.5 lakh average, which points to a handful of large offers lifting the mean.
The latest official CSE pay at every IIT that publishes it
Several larger IITs publish branch pay only in reports that trail the season by a year. For them, 2024-25 is the latest official data. It's labelled as such below, because a 2024-25 number is not a 2026 number.

Year on year, the direction is up wherever an IIT published both seasons. IIT Guwahati's CSE median went from ₹34.1 lakh to ₹51 lakh, IIT Bhubaneswar's from ₹14 lakh to ₹19.7 lakh, and IIT Palakkad's average from ₹18.23 lakh to ₹21.58 lakh. IIT Madras's CSE median rose from ₹37.5 lakh in 2023-24 to ₹46 lakh in 2024-25, per the same CPC reports.
Figures obtained through RTI requests, as reported by Careers360 (January 2026), fill in three more for 2024-25: IIT (ISM) Dhanbad's CSE average was ₹26.73 lakh (maximum ₹66.14 lakh), IIT Gandhinagar's ₹23.37 lakh, and IIT Roorkee placed 107 of 108 registered CSE students without disclosing pay. These are RTI replies, not institute publications, and Dhanbad's own report counts its placement rate on a different base.
Why there's no official CSE average for IIT Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur or Kharagpur
These four get most of the searches and publish the least branch data. What each one actually releases:
IIT Bombay CSE average package
IIT Bombay publishes department placement counts, not department pay. Its Annual Report 2024-25 lists the CSE department at 293 registered, 277 participating and 258 placed, and 107 companies making it offers (IIT Bombay Annual Report 2024-25). That count covers all CSE programmes, including M.Tech and PhD. The only official pay numbers are institute-wide: a median CTC of ₹20 lakh and an average of ₹26.45 lakh across every programme in 2024-25. Its NIRF 2026 filing puts the median for all four-year B.Tech graduates of 2024-25 at ₹20,20,860 (NIRF 2026). That is every branch, not CSE. IIT Delhi CSE average package
Same pattern. IIT Delhi's Annual Report 2024-25 shows 115 B.Tech CSE students using the placement office and 105 placed, plus 36 of 42 in the CSE dual degree (IIT Delhi Annual Report 2024-25). No pay by discipline. Its NIRF 2026 filing gives a ₹20 lakh median for all four-year UG graduates of 2024-25 and ₹30 lakh for the five-year dual degree (NIRF 2026). IIT Kanpur CSE average package
IIT Kanpur's placement office publishes no statistics page, and its 2025-26 CSE department brochure carries no CTC figures. The one CSE number for 2025-26 is the 99% selection rate above. Treat any "IIT Kanpur CSE average ₹X lakh" you see elsewhere with suspicion. Our IIT Kanpur placements page has the institute-level numbers.
IIT Kharagpur CSE average package
IIT Kharagpur's Career Development Centre publishes institute-level figures only. For 2025-26, Phase 1 brought a record 1,501 offers and a highest CTC of ₹2.44 crore, but no branch split. The breakdown is in IIT Kharagpur placements 2025-26.
Quick answers for the other IITs
IIT Madras CSE average package
₹53.2 lakh average and ₹46 lakh median for B.Tech CSE in 2024-25, the latest official figures (CPC report). IIT Madras has not yet released its 2025-26 report; the 2024-25 one was dated November 2025. See IIT Madras placements 2026.
IIT Guwahati CSE average package
₹48.49 lakh average and ₹51 lakh median in 2025-26, with 108 of 119 registered CSE students placed. That compares with a ₹22.01 lakh median across all B.Tech branches the same year (CCD report).
IIT Hyderabad CSE average package
No standalone CSE figure. Phase 1 of 2025-26 put CSE's placement rate at 83.05% and the combined AI, CSE and Mathematics & Computing average at around ₹40 lakh. The ₹2.5 crore international offer that made headlines was institute-wide, and its branch wasn't stated. See IIT Hyderabad placements 2025-26.
IIT Mandi CSE average package
₹29.33 lakh average and ₹24.6 lakh median, from institute data covering the "2021-2025 batches", with all 74 CSE students placed in 2024-25 (Indian Express). No 2025-26 branch data yet.
IIT Indore CSE average package
₹47.36 lakh average in 2024-25, with 79 of 82 registered CSE students placed and a highest package of ₹137 lakh (Annual report 2024-25). IIT Indore has no public statistics page, so this table in the annual report is the only official source.
IIT Patna CSE average package
Not published. For 2025-26, The Times of India reported that "The BTech computer science and engineering department reported the highest average package", without giving the number.
IIT (ISM) Dhanbad CSE average package
The official 2025-26 report gives CSE a placement rate of 89.13% but no CSE pay. Across all B.Tech branches, the median CTC was ₹14.15 lakh and the average ₹17.95 lakh. The RTI figure for 2024-25 CSE is a ₹26.73 lakh average.
For the remaining IITs (Ropar, Bhilai, Gandhinagar, BHU Varanasi and Roorkee), no official CSE pay figure exists for 2025-26. Ropar and Jodhpur show CSE only as unlabelled bars in their brochures, and Bhilai's latest report is 2024-25 (34 of 44 CSE students placed, no pay by branch).
Numbers you'll see elsewhere that don't hold up
- "IIT Bombay vs IIT Delhi CSE" comparisons that quote a ₹21.82 lakh IIT Bombay average are using institute-wide 2022-23 figures, not CSE.
- "IIT Kanpur CS freshers average ₹50 lakh" circulates with no season and no source document behind it.
- IIT Tirupati CSE "₹113 LPA highest" appears only on aggregator sites. The institute's official 2025-26 page gives placement counts and no pay figures.
- Department median tables for IIT Kanpur and IIT Roorkee on some news sites are described by the sites themselves as estimates "based on placement reports and media estimates".
The pattern behind all of these is the same: a real institute-wide number relabelled as a CSE number, or last year's figure moved into this year's headline. How this page is built
Every figure links to the document it came from, and every row names its season. Institute publications come first: placement reports, annual reports, department pages. Institute data quoted by a newspaper comes second, and RTI replies third, each labelled. Aggregator pages are not used as sources for numbers. Where an IIT publishes placement counts but no pay, the table says "not published" rather than filling the gap. We update this page as IITs release their 2025-26 reports; IIT Madras and IIT Bombay are the two most likely next.
