A two-year MBA at an IIT costs anywhere from ₹3,85,500 in semester fees at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad to ₹15,55,800 at IIT Bombay's SJMSOM for the 2026-28 batch, and the latest final placement reports put average salaries between ₹11 lakh (IIT Jodhpur) and ₹28.16 lakh (IIT Bombay). All ten IITs below admit through CAT, but each runs its own shortlist, sets its own cut-offs and publishes its own placement report. This guide puts the official numbers side by side, with a link to the document each one came from.
Which IITs offer a full-time MBA?
Ten IITs run a two-year, full-time, on-campus MBA through their own management school or department: Bombay (SJMSOM), Delhi (DMS), Kharagpur (VGSoM), Madras (DoMS), Kanpur (DoMS), Roorkee (DoMS), Dhanbad (IIT ISM), Jodhpur (SME), Guwahati (School of Business) and Mandi (School of Management, whose MBA is in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence).
The older IITs advertise together. DoMS IIT Madras explains: "The admission process to the MBA programs at IITs is jointly advertised by the IITs offering MBA program." It adds that "each of the IITs have an independent selection criteria" (DoMS MBA admission report 2026-28). One CAT score works everywhere, but you apply to each school separately and pay each application fee.
On the NIRF 2025 management ranking (the 2026 list was not yet published as of 1 October 2026), IIT Delhi was 4th, Kharagpur 12th, Madras 13th, Bombay 14th, Roorkee 22nd, Kanpur 27th, Dhanbad 48th and Jodhpur 98th.
IIT MBA fees: how much does each school charge?
Schools publish fees differently. Some give a programme total, some a per-semester figure, and Kanpur still shows only the 2025-27 batch. The table shows what each school itself publishes for its latest batch. Fees are for General, EWS and OBC-NCL students; SC, ST and PwD students pay no tuition at all of these IITs.

Two practical notes. IIT Delhi's 2026 offer letter says plainly: "This offer of admission does not guarantee on-campus accommodation" ({D_OFF}). And every fee document carries a line saying fees can be revised, so treat these as the price at admission, not a fixed quote for both years.
IIT MBA placements: average, median and highest
The table uses each school's most recent final placement report. They do not all cover the same year: Bombay and Madras have published for the batch that graduated in 2026, the others only for 2025. Where a school has no report online, we use the median salary it filed with NIRF and say so.

*IIT Mandi's website gives ₹47 LPA (including an international placement in Japan) and ₹18.39 LPA average; its 2026 admission brochure gives ₹48.8 LPA and ₹18.3 LPA for the same batch (IIT Mandi MBA admission brochure 2026). L = lakh per annum CTC.
The NIRF filings add a useful check on how many people actually got placed. IIT Kanpur reported 122 of 135 graduates placed in 2024-25 at a median of ₹16.5 lakh (IIT Kanpur NIRF 2026 management data). IIT Roorkee reported 73 of 78 at ₹17.64 lakh (IIT Roorkee NIRF 2026 management data), and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad 54 of 61 at ₹10.19 lakh (IIT (ISM) NIRF 2026 management data). VGSoM says all 139 students who sat for placements were placed (VGSoM final placement report 2023-25), and DMS reports 98% (DMS final placement report 2023-25).
Read averages with care. A single high offer pulls the average up, which is why the median is the better guide to a typical outcome. A DMS alumnus made a related point on Reddit about third-party salary claims:
"I'm from the class of 23 and even my batch's avg (as per the data compiled by number of students) was 22.xx......don't understand where you guys get these numbers from!" (r/CATpreparation)

DMS IIT Delhi does not state a seat count on its admission page. IIT Madras's report is unusually candid about how hard the seats are to fill: it made 490 offers for 106 seats, 130 were accepted, and 74 students finally enrolled. Offers keep going out until the programme starts, which is why waitlists at IIT schools move into July.
IIT MBA eligibility: graduation marks, CAT and work experience
The common floor is a three-year bachelor's degree with 60% marks (55% for SC, ST and PwD) and a valid CAT score. IIT Bombay says the MBA is "open to all candidates from all disciplines" (SJMSOM MBA brochure 2026). The exceptions matter:
- IIT Kharagpur asks for 60% or a CGPA of 6.5 in the qualifying degree (VGSoM eligibility 2026-28).
- IIT Kanpur requires 65% in Class 10 and Class 12, 60% in graduation, and Mathematics at the 10+2 level (IIT Kanpur MBA admission process).
- IIT Guwahati requires at least 65% in Class 10, Class 12 and graduation, plus a CAT Quantitative Aptitude percentile of 60 or above (IIT Guwahati MBA selection process).
- IIT Madras exempts IIT graduates with a CGPA of 8.0 or above from CAT (DoMS MBA admissions page); IIT Roorkee does the same for IIT graduates with CGPA 7 and above (IIT Roorkee DoMS admissions 2026).
- IIT Mandi exempts graduates of centrally funded technical institutions or NIRF top-100 institutes with 65% (60% for reserved categories) from CAT (IIT Mandi MBA admission brochure 2026).
Work experience is not required anywhere, but it is scored. Most schools reward roughly one to three years and give less credit beyond that. IIT Kharagpur gives no marks above 1,827 days (VGSoM selection process), IIT Madras gives the most for 24 to 36 months (DoMS MBA admission report 2026-28), and IIT Delhi gives full marks for 19 to 36 months (DMS shortlisting criteria 2026-28).
What CAT percentile do you need for an IIT MBA?
Only a few schools publish a percentile cut-off. Others publish a composite-score cut-off that blends CAT with academics and experience. These are the 2026 admission figures (CAT 2025):

A minimum cut-off is not the score that converts. IIT Bombay's 2024-26 batch had a median CAT percentile of 98.87 (SJMSOM final placement report 2024-26). IIT Madras shortlisted 1,302 of 4,871 applicants for interviews in 2026 (DoMS MBA admission report 2026-28).
Final selection then leans heavily on the interview. IIT Bombay weighs CAT and the interview at 42.5% each (SJMSOM final selection criteria); IIT Delhi gives the interview and extra-curriculars 40 of 100 marks (DMS shortlisting criteria 2026-28); Kharagpur gives the written test and interview 40 (VGSoM selection process); and Kanpur gives the interview 35% against 20% for CAT (IIT Kanpur MBA FAQ).
How to check this yourself: each school's admissions page links its current criteria as a PDF, usually updated in December or January after CAT results. Search the school site for "shortlisting criteria", not an aggregator.
How does IIT MBA admission work, step by step?
- Take CAT (late November). Every school uses it, though IIT graduates can skip it at Madras, Roorkee and Mandi under the conditions above.
- Apply to each IIT separately once CAT results are out. Portals typically open in late December and close between late January and mid-February (IIT Jodhpur extended to March in 2026). Application fees range from ₹1,200 (Jodhpur) to ₹2,400 (Mandi, male General candidates).
- Get shortlisted on the composite score or percentile cut-off.
- Interview in March, in person in several cities for most schools; IIT Jodhpur interviews online (IIT Jodhpur CAT cut-offs 2026-28).
- Offers go out from late April, with waitlist rounds through June and July. DMS IIT Delhi posted more than a dozen waitlist rounds between April and July 2026 (DMS IIT Delhi admission page).
Is an IIT MBA worth it compared with an IIM?
On cost, the IIT schools are mostly modest: Kanpur, Jodhpur, Guwahati, Roorkee and Dhanbad all charge under ₹10 lakh in tuition for the two years. The trade-off is batch size and recruiter breadth. A batch of 30 to 140 brings fewer companies to campus than a large IIM class, and the IIT MBAs skew towards consulting, operations, IT and analytics roles in their own reports. Students weighing offers on Reddit tend to make the same two points:

Compare the median salary and the fee for the specific schools you have converted, using the reports linked above, rather than the brand in general.
Executive and online MBAs at IITs (not the CAT route)
