Placements · 2025-26 midseason · 23-IIT scoreboard
As of 2 August 2026 — two months after the 2025-26 IIT placement season officially closed — only one of India's 23 IITs has published a full-cycle report. Eleven have released Phase 1 or opening-week numbers. Twelve have released nothing at all. The one full report landed yesterday, from an IIT most readers don't rank in the top eight: IIT Bhubaneswar crossed 500 total offers, with a ₹74.3 LPA institute-record top domestic package and an 85.30% B.Tech placement rate (IBG News, 1 Aug 2026; iitbbs.ac.in).
The scoreboard below is the honest midseason picture — every IIT named, every claim linked to primary source, no year-old numbers re-dated as fresh. Season-end reports for the older IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur) historically drop July–October, so this post gets a running refresh through Q4 2026.
The three IITs that have actually released numbers
Full-cycle disclosure — meaning a placement report covering more than the first two weeks of the season — has come from just three IITs so far, and all three are institutions that don't make aggregators' default top-eight lists. Bhubaneswar was the news yesterday; Patna and Dhanbad closed out Phase 1 in January.
| IIT | Stage | Total placed | B.Tech avg | Top offer | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| IIT Bhubaneswar | Full-season (running) | 500+ | ₹19.4 LPA | ₹74.3 LPA (institute record) | iitbbs.ac.in |
| IIT Patna | Phase 1 closed | 400 B.Tech | ₹25.82 LPA (+17.66% YoY) | Not disclosed | Careers360, 16 Jan 2026 |
| IIT (ISM) Dhanbad | 11-day Phase 1 update | 550+ (350 offers + 200 PPOs) | CSE ₹26.73 LPA (2025 cycle) | ₹80 LPA (4 CSE students) | Shiksha News, 12 Dec 2025 |
What IIT Bhubaneswar's yesterday report actually says. Per the institute's own placement page (last updated 2 June 2026), 313 of 331 registered B.Tech students participated in the placement process, 267 got placed — that's the 85.30% figure. Dual Degree came in at 83.3% (75/90 placed), MTech at 71.1% (123/173). The ₹74.3 LPA domestic ceiling breaks the institute's prior record. Median annual salary: ₹15.3 lakh for UG, ₹11.2 lakh for PG. The season stays open until end-July 2026, so these numbers are effectively final. First 2025-26 full-cycle report of any IIT.
The Google-pivot-downstream signal. Both Patna and Dhanbad appeared on r/Btechtards' 20 July thread "Google mass hiring at IIT DHANBAD" (115 upvotes). The top-voted reply: "Google is hiring massively from some of the non top-9 IITs and have decreased number of hires from the top IITs for a few years now." Reply below it: "same happened with iit patna." The 2025-26 hiring pattern — Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA showing up in Phase 1 recruiter lists at Gen-2 IITs — matches the numbers. Patna's ₹25.82 LPA average (+17.66% YoY) is a bigger uplift than most top-8 IITs disclosed.
The eight IITs with Phase 1 data
Eight of the older / mid-tier IITs released opening-week or Phase-1 numbers between 1 December 2025 and 26 January 2026 and have not published anything since. Everything below has been independently deep-dived on iitianvibes.com/blog — links per section.
IIT Bombay — opacity outlier of the top three
TL;DR: Only Day 1 media data exists. No official 2025-26 press release. 2024-25 anchor: ₹20.21 LPA B.Tech median, 69.3% placement rate (down from 75%).
IIT Bombay released nothing official for 2025-26 — no Phase 1 summary, no Phase 2 update. The only data point is a Hindustan Times report from 2 December 2025: 42 companies on Day 1, 98 offers, media-reported ₹1.48 Cr Da Vinci top. The most recent standalone placement PDF on the placement cell site is 2023-24. Current IIT Bombay students themselves flagged the transparency problem on r/iitbombay in June 2026: "They are decreasing transparency for placement results in like last 2 years." The verified 2024-25 UG median stays the best available benchmark. Full breakdown: IIT Bombay Placements 2026 →
IIT Delhi — 1,275 offers, 300+ PPOs, refuses to disclose top package
TL;DR: Interim OCS release 29 Dec 2025 — 1,275 total offers, 1,140+ placed, 300+ PPOs (+33% YoY), 35+ international. Highest package undisclosed by explicit policy.
IIT Delhi's Office of Career Services published its interim on 29 December 2025 — the strongest single official signal from any older IIT this cycle. The PPO surge (+33%) is the standout. OCS policy remains: "IIT Delhi as a policy has decided not to mention high-value packages in their placement related press releases." Nothing further has been published between end-May 2026 (season close) and 2 Aug 2026. NIRF 2026 median: ₹20 LPA B.Tech, ₹30 LPA 5-year dual (highest UG median of any IIT). Full breakdown: IIT Delhi Placements 2026 →
IIT Madras — biggest Day 1 pool in history, zero outcome data
TL;DR: 300+ registered companies + 100+ mature startups + ~2,000 candidates on Day 1 — largest ever. No Phase 1 summary, no outcome data, no salary numbers.
Per CollegeDekho's Day 1 report, IIT Madras opened 2025-26 with the largest Day 1 recruiter pool in institute history and CDC framing that emphasised "more core companies, including public sector undertakings, participating this year compared to the previous year." But CDC has not published a Phase 1 summary and — despite the season closing end of May — no season-end report has landed as of 2 August 2026. The 2024-25 anchor to beat: ₹4.3 Cr Jane Street Hong Kong PPO (highest ever recorded at Madras), 25 crorepatis, CSE median ₹46 LPA. Full breakdown: IIT Madras Placements 2025-26 →
IIT Kanpur — record Day 1, 1,202 Phase 1 offers
TL;DR: Phase 1: 1,202 offers, 1,079 accepted, 253 Day 1 PPOs (+27% YoY), 15 international. NIRF 2026 median ₹21.70 LPA.
IIT Kanpur's SPO released its Phase 1 summary on 26 December 2025 — 672 Day 1 offers (record, +16% YoY), Phase 1 close at 1,202. The Day 1 PPO count (253, +27% YoY) is the strongest single-metric jump across the top-5 IITs this cycle. Named recruiters: Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Qualcomm, TI, Amex, BlackRock, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan, Squarepoint, Meesho, Navi, plus PSUs (BPCL, BEL). Phase 2 began mid-January; no Phase 2 or season-end release has followed. Full breakdown: IIT Kanpur Placements 2026 →
IIT Kharagpur — 1,501 offers, ₹2.44 Cr Da Vinci ceiling
TL;DR: Phase 1: 1,501 offers, 457 PPOs, 15 international, 5 offers >₹2 Cr, 10 offers ₹1-2 Cr, top ₹2.44 Cr (Da Vinci Derivatives).
Kharagpur's CDC released its Phase 1 report via PTI on 21 January 2026. Nine of the top-eleven ₹90-lakh-plus recruiters were either quant-trading (Da Vinci, NK Securities, IMC, APT Portfolio, Atlas, Quadeye, Quantbox, Graviton) or AI/product-tech (Rubrik, Glean, Databricks) — the widening quant premium is most visible at KGP. International offers stayed thin: 15 in Phase 1, versus IIT Bombay's 78 for the full 2024-25 season. r/iitkgp community-compiled data (May 2026, 68 upvotes) put the batch median at ~₹22 LPA — slightly above the ₹20.66 L NIRF 2026 figure. Full breakdown: IIT Kharagpur Placements 2025-26 →
IIT Roorkee — 436 Day 1 recovery from a Parliament-flagged slump
TL;DR: 436 Day 1 offers (428 domestic + 8 international). NVIDIA + Qualcomm + TI + D.E. Shaw on Day 1. No salary data publicly released.
Roorkee's 2025-26 opener matters because of what it recovers from. In March 2025, a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education flagged the institute's B.Tech placement rate cratering from 98.54% (2021-22) to 79.66% (2023-24). WatchOut IIT Roorkee's June 2025 analysis then confirmed 2024-25 total offers fell 21% (938 → 742) and recruiter count 37% (261 → 163). Against that, 436 Day 1 with NVIDIA + Qualcomm + TI + D.E. Shaw on the recruiter list is a real signal — no other IIT booked that specific semiconductor + quant cluster on Day 1. Salary figures for 2025-26 pending WatchOut's Phase 1 analysis (typically drops June). Full breakdown: IIT Roorkee Placements 2025-26 →
IIT Hyderabad — ₹2.5 Cr Optiver Netherlands PPO, avg +75% YoY
TL;DR: Institute record ₹2.5 Cr Optiver PPO (Edward Nathan Varghese, CSE). B.Tech Phase 1 avg ₹36.21 LPA (+75% YoY). CSE Phase 1 placement rate 83.05%.
The biggest single-institute jump of the cycle. IITH broke a 17-year ceiling — its 2017 record of ₹1.1 Cr, then a 2024-25 dip to ₹66.13 LPA — with Varghese's Optiver Amsterdam Software Engineer PPO. The average is arguably the bigger story: ₹36.21 LPA (+75% YoY) for the whole B.Tech Phase 1 pool. AI (83.33%), CSE (83.05%) and Mathematics & Computing (77.78%) branches ran at ₹40 LPA+ average. Triple-verified across six outlets. r/JEENEETards' community CSE-median tier list places IITH in the "Exceptional Tier (30+ LPA median)" — alongside BITS, IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Bangalore, IIT Guwahati, IIT BHU, IIT Roorkee. Full breakdown: IIT Hyderabad Placements 2025-26 →
IIT BHU Varanasi — 17 Day-1 crorepatis, average up 28.6%
TL;DR: 1,005 opening-week offers, 17 Day-1 crorepatis (vs 15 for full 2024-25 season), avg ₹29.33 LPA (+28.6% YoY), ceiling ₹1.67 Cr NK Securities Research (DOWN from 2024-25 ₹2.20 Cr).
The honest tension most placement posts won't publish: BHU's Foundation reported a record-strong opening week with the average up 28.6% — but the ceiling actually fell 24% year-on-year. Two different signals in the same season. Top recruiter volume: ZS Associates 41 offers, ICICI Bank 28, Meesho 24, Deloitte 16. From r/IITBHU (June 2026), an incoming student's summary: "online I found very much negative things about IIT BHU, I did not find any reddit where people were talking upside of IIT BHU (except placement)." That is the one-line community consensus on BHU. Full breakdown: IIT BHU Placements 2025-26 →
The twelve IITs that still haven't disclosed
Twelve of 23 IITs have released zero verifiable 2025-26 placement data from their own CDC / press office as of 2 August 2026 — no Phase 1 release, no institute page update, no CDC brochure with current-cycle numbers. For each, we carry the 2024-25 NIRF/CDC baseline for context and flag the community read where Reddit surfaced one.
- IIT Guwahati — no CCD release. 2024-25 baseline: 1,001 placed / 1,606 registered, ₹1.25 Cr high, ₹25.21 LPA B.Tech avg. Reddit (26 Jul 2026) contested a "CSE 51 LPA median" graphic — top-voted reply calls it "AI slop." Real non-CSE uplift is 2-5 LPA YoY per same thread.
- IIT Indore — no Phase 1 press. 2024-25 (NIRF 2026): 427 placed, ₹18 LPA UG median. r/Btechtards (29 Jun 2026): CSE/EE averages inflated by 1-2 Cr outliers, "Mostly off campus hi hota hai" — the highest packages route around the placement cell.
- IIT Gandhinagar — no CDC update. 2024-25 baseline: 76.22% B.Tech, ₹18.20 LPA avg, ₹14.43 LPA median. r/Btechtards current student (6 Jul 2026): "the administration currently is the worst you can find. … ACs dont work" — placements likely reflect the broader dysfunction.
- IIT Ropar — aggregator-only claim of 420+ Phase 1 offers, ₹1.5 Cr domestic top, ₹2.05 Cr international (Getmyuni, no CDPC confirmation). Community verified separately: CSE placement rate jumped 80.23% → 96.39% YoY per r/Btechtards (9 Jun 2026, citing Careers360).
- IIT Jodhpur — brochure exists (recruiter-facing PDF), no results release. 2024-25: 500+ offers, 21 international, B.Tech 92%, CSE ₹26.31 LPA avg. r/Btechtards (23 Jun 2026): "Pretty underwhelming for a gen 2 iit … patna have better stats." Same thread flagged 50/100 Mech students silently opting out.
- IIT Mandi — no Phase 1 press. 2024-25: 95.04% B.Tech, ₹17 LPA median, CSE 100% at ₹29.33 LPA avg.
- IIT Bhilai — no mid-season release; historically doesn't publish Phase 1. 2024-25: 73.54%, ₹13.28 LPA avg, ₹11.4 LPA median.
- IIT Dharwad — no 2025-26 disclosure. 2024-25: 96% placement, ₹11.9 LPA avg.
- IIT Jammu — placement report page returns no data. 2024-25: 220+ offers, 120+ recruiters, CSE ₹26.6 LPA avg, 83%.
- IIT Palakkad — no mid-season update. 2024-25: 84.78% B.Tech, ₹13.98 LPA avg.
- IIT Goa — 2025-26 recruiter brochure published (courting recruiters actively), but no results. 2024-25: 92.8% rate, ₹19.15 LPA avg.
- IIT Tirupati — no mid-season disclosure. Historical RTI reporting (2024) noted 46% not placed — the weakest disclosure discipline in the newest-IIT cohort.
Aggregator sites like Shiksha, Collegedunia and CollegeDekho carry pages titled "Placements 2026" for each of these institutes, but the numbers on them almost universally re-date the 2024-25 CDC data. Treat any single-figure "highest package" claim on those pages as unofficial unless the primary IIT press release is cited.
Cross-cutting trends this cycle
The quant premium is widening at every reported IIT. IIT Hyderabad's ₹2.5 Cr Optiver (up from ₹66.13 LPA), IIT Kharagpur's ₹2.44 Cr Da Vinci (bundle >₹2.5 Cr per secondary source), IIT Bombay's ₹1.48 Cr Da Vinci (media-reported), IIT BHU's ₹1.67 Cr NK Securities Research, IIT Dhanbad's four ₹80 LPA CSE offers. Nine of the top-eleven ₹90-lakh-plus recruiters at IIT Kharagpur were quant-trading or AI-product firms. Community verification: r/Btechtards' 15 July thread "Quant stipend in IIT" (130 upvotes on the top comment) noted "Yes, Optiver also 25L/Month at IIT Kharagpur, graviton 30L/month" — monthly stipends now exceeding most freshers' annual CTC. The 347-upvote reply below codified the filter: Graviton's careers site lists 8.5 CGPA cutoff and "only top 5 iits can apply."
AI/ML share of IIT offers is now ~40%. Per OwnYourCareer's 2026 IIT hiring roundup, roughly 40% of 2025-26 IIT offers landed in AI/ML/data-engineering-adjacent roles — the biggest single-lane shift in a decade. This matches every institute-specific top-recruiter list above: Optiver, Jane Street, NVIDIA, Databricks, Rubrik, Glean showing up across Bombay, Hyderabad, Kharagpur, BHU, Roorkee.
Google is pivoting downstream to Gen-2 and Gen-3 IITs. The clearest single signal: Google's "mass hiring" thread at IIT Dhanbad (20 Jul 2026, 115 upvotes on top explanation). Google, Microsoft and NVIDIA appear in Phase 1 recruiter lists at Patna, Dhanbad, Roorkee, BHU — and Patna's ₹25.82 LPA average uplift (+17.66% YoY) is stronger than most top-5 IITs disclosed. If your JoSAA rank landed you at a Gen-2 IIT, this is the year the top-tech recruiter base actually shows up.
The rescission climate that produced AIPC's new debarment rule. Between January and April 2026, AIPC named Oracle, Interview Kickstart and SuperAGI as companies that revoked Class of 2026 offers — roughly 100 students affected across IITs. The response: for the 2026-27 cycle, rescinding a confirmed offer means either 3 months' CTC compensation or a two-batch debarment. r/developersIndia's most-discussed 2026 hiring thread (349 upvotes) surfaced hiring-manager policy: "If candidate asks more after interviews we rescind the offer. […] We have lost 40%+ engineers this way." The general climate that AIPC's rule was written against. Full breakdown: AIPC 2026-27 rules →
What's coming through August–October 2026
Full-cycle 2025-26 CDC reports historically drop for the older IITs in this window:
- IIT Madras CDC report — typical release July–August (overdue). Watch placement.iitm.ac.in.
- IIT Kanpur SPO Phase 2 / final — typical release with NIRF submission window; may slip to NIRF 2027 in April.
- IIT Kharagpur CDC full report — typical release August-September.
- IIT Bombay standalone report — no fixed schedule; the most recent standalone PDF on placement cell is 2023-24. Expect NIRF 2027 (April 2027) as the next confirmed data point unless the institute breaks pattern.
- IIT Roorkee WatchOut analysis — student-media Phase 1 read typically drops mid-June; the 2025-26 version has not yet published as of 2 Aug 2026.
This post is the running scoreboard — updated as each report lands. If you're an aspirant weighing JoSAA 2026 or a current 3rd-year mapping the recruiter constellation for your intern-to-PPO conversion, bookmark this URL.
Frequently asked questions
Which IIT has the highest 2025-26 placement package?
IIT Hyderabad's ₹2.5 Cr Optiver Netherlands PPO to Edward Nathan Varghese is the highest single verified 2025-26 offer disclosed to date — institute record since IITH's founding in 2008. IIT Kharagpur's Da Vinci Derivatives bundle (>₹2.5 Cr total comp, ₹2.44 Cr CDC-reported) is the closest counter. IIT Bombay's Da Vinci ₹1.48 Cr and IIT BHU's NK Securities ₹1.67 Cr round out the ₹1 Cr+ single-offer set among the reported IITs.
How many IITs have released 2025-26 placement data?
11 of 23 as of 2 August 2026. IIT Bhubaneswar published a full-cycle report yesterday (85.30% B.Tech, ₹19.4 LPA avg, ₹74.3 LPA top). IIT Patna and IIT Dhanbad closed Phase 1 with numbers. Eight more (Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Hyderabad, BHU) released Phase 1 or Day 1 data between December 2025 and January 2026. Twelve IITs (Guwahati, Indore, Gandhinagar, Ropar, Jodhpur, Mandi, Bhilai, Dharwad, Jammu, Palakkad, Goa, Tirupati) have released nothing verifiable this cycle.
When will the top-5 IITs publish full 2025-26 placement reports?
Historically, IIT Madras and IIT Kharagpur release full-cycle reports in July-August (Madras is overdue). IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi typically bundle full-cycle numbers into their NIRF submission, meaning NIRF 2027 in April 2027. IIT Bombay has not published a standalone placement report since 2023-24, so NIRF 2027 is likely the next verifiable data point. This midseason scoreboard gets refreshed as each report drops.
Why is IIT Bhubaneswar the first IIT with a full 2025-26 report?
Bhubaneswar's placement page carries updated data throughout the season (last updated 2 June 2026) rather than waiting for a single end-of-season press release. The 500+ milestone getting picked up by IBG News on 1 August 2026 is the first mainstream press event of the season-end reporting cycle. Older IITs typically wait for post-May consolidation, which pushes their reports into the July-October window.
